TRAI changes MNP rules, if SIM is lost, you will have to wait for 7 days to port it

TRAI MNP Rules: TRAI has changed the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) rules. According to the new rule, if you have recently changed your SIM, then you will not be able to port your mobile number to another network.

TRAI MNP Rules: The Telecom Regularity Authority of India (TRAI) has changed the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) rules. Let us tell you that the MNP facility was started in the year 2009 and now it has been changed for the ninth time. According to this new rule, if you have recently changed your SIM, then you will not be able to port your mobile number to another network. Customers will now have to wait for seven days to transfer their mobile number to another network. TRAI says that these changes are being made to protect customers from fraud and online fraud. This will increase the security of customers. Let us tell you about it in detail.

What is SIM swap?

If you have ever lost your SIM or the SIM is damaged, then in such a situation you go to your telecom operator and get the SIM replaced. This process is called SIM swap.

You will be able to port your SIM after seven days

According to the new rules of TRAI, after getting the SIM swapped, you will not be able to transfer your number to another network for at least 7 days. If the customer has changed the SIM in the last 7 days, then the telecom companies will not be able to issue him a Unique Porting Code (UPC). UPC is that code with the help of which you can transfer your mobile number to another network. This wait of seven days is necessary so that no other person takes a new SIM in your name.

Why was this change made?

This change has been made to prevent fraud and spam. TRAI says that this will make the process of mobile number porting safe and no fraud of any kind will happen. If your SIM is lost or not working then you can go to your telecom operator’s store and get the SIM replaced. For this, you will have to show a valid document of your identity.
